IoT: Sensors and actuators to track the state of a crop in real time.

The idea

IoT is changing how we interact with the world by connecting everyday objects to the internet. With this project we set out to check the state of a crop and improve it by automating its care, while exploring what analysing that data opens up: big data, machine learning, neural networks.

What we explored

  • Temperature, light and humidity control
  • Decision and automation systems
  • Real-time and historical measurements
  • Blockchain-verified data

Modules

  • Arduinos
  • Light, temperature and humidity sensors
  • Actuators
  • LoRa connectivity

How we built it

Using Arduinos and several sensors, we collect data from the test environment: humidity, temperature and light. The values travel over LoRa to an Arduino that stores them in a database through an API; blockchain verifies the data to prevent errors and make it trustworthy.

Since it is stored in real time, the crop’s evolution can be analysed over time. That lets us anticipate threats to the plant (early detection) and learn how it evolves, to automate and improve its care.

We also build to learn. If you have an idea worth trying, let's talk.
