IoT Project
With the focus on exploring new technologies, we developed an IoT device for environmental monitoring in plants.
Sometimes internal projects are born from something as simple as the office plants. In this case, between meetings and deadlines, we didn’t always have time to take care of them and, although it may seem minor, this situation became the perfect excuse to experiment with new technologies and solve an everyday problem in an innovative way.
That’s how we decided to venture into a field that was unusual for us and, with the goal of exploring new technologies, we developed an IoT device for plant monitoring, capable of wirelessly connecting to networks to collect and exchange environmental data. Our system included three sensors: one to measure light, another for temperature, and a third to monitor soil and air humidity.
But we didn’t stop there. We decided to incorporate Blockchain to ensure that each measurement was securely signed and stored in an immutable way. Every four hours, the device generated records, and if humidity dropped below 40%, we knew it was time to check the plant.
This experience, however small it may seem, pushed us to think big. Because if a simple cactus can have its own smart monitoring system, the same concept could be applied at an industrial scale: humidity control in crops, optimization of water resources, or even environmental monitoring in workplaces could all benefit from devices like this.
As a software development company, we usually work with the intangible code, data, digital platforms. This time, however, we came into direct contact with a physical object that forced us to think about sensors, connections, materials, and more.
Ultimately, what began as a solution to stop worrying about the office plant ended up becoming an opportunity to explore new technologies, and reminded us that great advances often come from everyday challenges.
